What's a Budgie?
A budgie is the smallest member of the parrot family. It usually measures no more than seven inches from head to tail, and comes from Australia, where summers are harsh and dry and winters are devastatingly cold. A budgie--commonly called a parakeet--is a very popular pet, and the reasons are numerous. - They're friendly. Budgies want to be where you are and do what you do. They're flock animals, and in captivity, you're their flock.
- They're smart. Budgies can easily figure out solutions to problems, and they can learn to talk at a young age.
- They're small. Many people these days don't have room for a parrot. A budgie is a good option because they don't take up much space.
- They're quiet. Not to say that they don't make any noise! They usually, though, emit quiet chirps, which are quite pleasing to hear. They do have a capability to scream, but this problem can be easily averted with the proper care.

Green Budgies
There are two colors: the green series and the blue series. The green series is the original coloring of the budgie, and the blue came around later. There is also the albino, which is a blue series bird with no pigment, and the lutino, which is a green series bird with no pigment (it looks bright yellow). Shown here are typical green budgies.
